Planning of the Strategic Committees

Organized by the NGO Objectif Sciences International, in Consultative Status to the United Nations (ECOSOC) with the participation of the Geneva Forum at the UN

Since the mid-2000s, the development of “citizen science” has been growing exponentially. The phenomenon goes beyond the effects of fashion and is linked to the development of information technologies, the interest of non-scientist-professionals in research practices and the support of many institutions.

To take the measure of this phenomenon, it is first necessary to define citizen sciences in their diversity. In order to question the novelty and possible futures of citizen science, we distinguish between science and participatory research. This one can then be understood as a different (and complementary) type of research from scientific research.

Types of NGO Operators producing together Participatory Research Operations :

  • Research and Science Education Programs
  • Pedagogy and Logistics Programs for Sustainable Development
  • Participatory Development Programs
  • Workshops, Lectures and Project Sketches

13h30-15h30 : Workshop: Enriching an already existing Travel with a Participatory Science Project
Today, travellers are increasingly demanding richer experiences that are closer to reality. The expectation is for tourism projects that are directly connected to the issues of the moment (humanitarian, science, nature...), respectful of places and people, but also productive of a result, and, importantly, that allow travellers to participate with their own hands.
Participatory Travel has thus emerged, whether it is in the service of Nature or of Man, depending on the themes proposed and the places explored.
What supports and services can Tour Operators of all sizes benefit from? How can Travel Agencies take advantage of the pool of science and nature managers of Objectif Sciences International to enrich their own trips and their catalogue of offers? How can the results of these additional scientific trips be included in the end-of-year results of efforts around the world presented to United Nations, and thus highlight the involvement of these travel agencies?
This 2-hour agency-to-agency workshop, focused on the practical concerns of travel agencies, will help to realise the range of possibilities and what they allow in terms of business development for the agencies and why this helps the NGO to achieve its goals of developing Participatory Science.
